Right from the get go we knew that if it was possible for you to make your own music in Cadence, then we wanted it to be as easy as possible for you to share that from the game. We're still some way away from that point, but now is a good time for you to tell us what is important to you? Eg Soundcloud sharing? Wav file exports? You tell us!
Wow. I'd love both SoundCloud and wav export. The reasoning is to share sounds as they happen or save them to remix and use later. I was thinking about this last night and how when I use the app Figure, it only let you post to Soundcloud and nothing else, I felt stunted and stopped using it.
I'd also be curious if anyone performed live with Cadence. I'd go see it. Think it'd be a great immersive event in NYC.
Just thought of a tiny hitch. If you let the loops go too long, they explode. So will sandbox mode or another "live" mode be used to prevent that from interrupting?
I think you're mistaken about the loop (unless it is a bug/feature I did not encounter?), the loop stop playing only if not all nodes play on a loop. So I do not think it would be a problem for live perfomance (a live performance would really be amazing, I agree on that)
To answer your question @TheFuntastic, the thing that would be the most helpful for me would be a wav/mp3 export, as soundcloud uploading is easy afterwards, but that it would allow me to modify it
Thank you very much ^^
@jdlv if the loop explodes that means it hasn't been solved exactly right - and that there's a node somewhere that's not being triggered. Some levels bug out though because it takes much longer to explode than it should.
@Epiphania interesting fact about mp3, it's actually licensed technology. So if we have mp3 export for Cadence we need to pay a licence fee. Seems crazy for a technology that is so ubiquitous! But that reminds us that it's probably worth investigating exactly what this means for a game like Cadence - because mp3 makes a lot of sense
@TheFuntastic Oh, I wasn't sure about that, I thought I was confusing with something else. Thanks for the explanation then ^^
And by mp3, I just meant a generic way to export soundfiles, just that .wav semt to take a lot of place pretty fast.
Also, will you propose in-software tool to modify or organise the sound? For instance there isn't any way to do a true composition right now, as it is looping pretty fast. So I am wondering if I'll have to record manually the different part of the song, or if there will be something to do multi-part track
Sorry if I ask too many questions by the way, I'm just that enthusiastic x)
@Epiphania no worries, we appreciate the enthusiasm! So in the alternate universe where our Kickstarter had been successfully funded those features (stringing longer sequences together) were definitely on the cards. But now that we're forced to focus on the most important parts of Cadence, we'll probably have to keep those for the sequel
Oh, I see
It is a bit of a shame as I was looking for such a music creation tool, but it is a good thing to focus on the more important tasks ^^
I guess that with the multi-layer editor we will already be able to have some diversity ^^
@Epiphania Ayup! And we'd like to show off what CAN be done in some upcoming videos, as insight for the dev process and hopefully a little inspiration on the side.
